Hi, I'm Kyle!

I'm a Creative Technologist at Google Creative Lab, where I collaborate with artists, creative directors, and Google's leading researchers to bring cutting-edge AI capabilities to life.

My mission is to pioneer new interactions with technology. I leverage my skills in engineering and design to transform complex AI capabilities into intuitive experiences that millions already use.

As a hands-on technical lead, I am responsible for architecting and building the systems that turn our ideas into reality. I'm most proud of my contributions to projects like Teachable Machine, where my primary focus was engineering the intuitive, no-code interface that has empowered millions of people to experiment with machine learning and train their own models for the first time using transfer learning. This passion for inclusivity was also the guiding force behind Creatability, a series of experiments developed in close collaboration with the disability community. For this project, I translated their needs and insights into a library of open-source web components and novel assistive interfaces, such as controlling a website through body movement using PoseNet.

This drive to build extends to my personal philosophy on knowledge and learning. I'm a firm believer that our tools shape our thinking, and I'm fascinated by systems like Zettelkasten and the design of Tools for Thought.

This interest has led me to build personal projects, including an AI-powered assistant that helps me navigate and draw connections within my own extensive digital notes. For me, the act of building is a form of thinking, and the process of writing is a way to clarify and generate new ideas.

When I'm not at the keyboard, you can usually find me planning the next overlanding trip, hiking, working on a new leathercraft project, or creating a new generative art sketch with my pen plotter.

Ultimately, my work is an exploration of how technology can amplify our best human qualities: creation, curiosity, and empathy.

As AI gets better at mastering public knowledge, what becomes increasingly valuable is private knowledge—your notes, your thinking, your accumulated experience—becomes the differentiator, it also becomes the key to personalization. I've been taking daily notes on everything in my life for over three years using a Zettelkasten method. That's over 1 million tokens worth of thinking, connections, and accumulated understanding about me.
